Amanda's Introduction

Hi, my name is Amanda Ackerman! I was born in Glen Cove, New York. I moved to Escondido, California when I was three. I consider myself a California girl with a New York fashion sense! I've lived in Escondido for 21 years. All of my schooling, K-12, and college was all done in California. I attended San Pasqual Union School in Escondido from Kindergarten to 8th grade. San Pasqual Union School is the only school in its district. The Principal and Superintendent are the same person. When I started school there it was one class per grade. I had the privilege of attending grades K-6 with all the same students. The school grew as I got into the upper grades. For grades 7th and 8th there were two classes for each grade. My 8th grade class was a group of about 42 students. We were split between two high schools in Escondido. I started San Pasqual High School in Escondido, California in 2000. I graduated from San Pasqual High School in 2004. I received my BA in Political Science from Cal State San Marcos in 2007.

I have many experiences with technology. Most experiences result with me losing things things. I am proficient at sending and receiving e-mail, typing papers, making PowerPoint presentations, and online shopping. I consider online shopping to be my specialty. I am a Mac person. I am even more excited about using my Mac with the addition of an iPhone into my life! I depend on technology almost daily. I check e-mail everyday. I text and use my phone everyday. I also watch television, drive my car, and listen to music. I consider all of these uses of technology! I believe the Mac I use uses Microsoft Office 2004. I think that is a bit dated!

When I applied to Cal State San Marcos's COE the mission statement was not a factor in applying. I attended CSUSM previously and liked it so much I decided to come back for round two! The part of the COE Mission Statement that speaks to me is the part about the commitment to life-long learning. I am a firm believer in life-long learning. I hope to be a "learner" forever. I enjoy being in the classroom. I enjoy learning new tools and adding to my skills!
